M-Theory and the Multiverse

Proponents of M-theory, who think they escape the implication of a creator for our universe birthed by the “Big Bang,” are stuck between an empirical rock and an intelligently designed hard place.

Consider the fact that M-theory—the “Theory of Everything” in physics that connects quantum mechanics with gravity—while being a credible mathematical framework is not a proven scientific theory.

Admittedly, it does entail credible core ideas, such as replacing subatomic particles with tiny vibrating “strings” of energy, extra dimensional space that constantly creates new universes through quantum fluctuations, and the existence of multi-dimensional objects called “membranes.” It’s proposed that our universe could be resting on one of these massive membranes that floats in a higher dimensional space. The collision event of these higher dimensional membranes is thought to trigger “Big Bang” events that generate new universes.

Supposedly, there’s no need for a deliberate “Designer” to our universe since it is thought to have come into existence via the collision of eternal membranes explained by statistical probability.

However, as stated earlier, M-theory relies on mathematical laws that generate expanding universes. The question remains: Why do these laws exist in the first place?

The existence of a “generator” capable of establishing these laws suggests a purposeful blueprint rather than brute facts. Thus, a designer is required to “fine-tune” our specific universe. But if not an intelligent “designer” then at least an intelligent “selector” is needed to pick a life-permitting universe out of all the uninhabitable universes. However, I still believe a designer of the meta-laws that govern the multiverse (10500 possible universes) is still the most viable option. Lastly, the principle of sufficient reason demands an explanation for the multiverse responsible for our universe, assuming there’s a reason why the multiverse and its eternal membranes (undergoing endless collisions and rebirths) exist the way they do.

A sage man once said, “The first and greatest victory is to conquer yourself.” –Plato, Laws I.626e When did knowledge replace wisdom, or facts replace virtues? Was it during the Enlightenment when rationality and science replaced the objective standard of divine justice and righteousness? This sounds terribly right. And it explains a lot about what’s…

After 20 years of planning, researching, writing, and editing, SALVADOR is finally finished and available to purchase and enjoy at https://a.co/d/0d62xt6p! SALVADOR was originally inspired by two books: The Jesus I Never Knew and The Da Vinci Code. I loved how Philip Yancey highlighted the humanity of Christ in the former, and I loved how…
